Food Donated During Two-Week Drive to Help Residents in the Coastal Communities of South Carolina

GREENSBORO, N.C., Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of Tanger Factory Outlets' regional community outreach efforts, the company has announced a partnership during the month of November with Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) to host on-site food drives at each of its four South Carolina centers. The LCFB serves 200,000 children, adults and seniors throughout the 10 coastal cities of South Carolina and will distribute about 24 million pounds of food in 2015.

From November 9th through November 21st, Tanger Outlets Charleston, Hilton Head, and both Myrtle Beach locations – Hwy 17 and Hwy 501, will be offering on-site drop-off locations for donated food items. Drop-off times and locations may vary for each center.  Donors are encouraged to check each individual center's website for details. As an added incentive, Tanger Outlets will be offering TangerSTYLE 20% off a single item discount coupons to food drive participants.

"Many families are stretched so thin financially that nutritious meals simply are not in the budget and disasters can exacerbate that demand even further," said Steven B. Tanger, President and CEO of Tanger Outlets. "Tanger Outlets is proud to join Lowcountry Food Bank in this initiative to help get non-perishable foods into the hands of those who need it and to inspire others to take a stand against hunger in their community."

In October, record rainfall in the Lowcountry placed adequate nutrition further out of reach for those already struggling with hunger in the community, and have forced others who have never needed it before to seek food assistance. With this two-week drive, Tanger Outlets and LCFB hope to garner 1,000 donated meals per center.

"The Lowcountry Food Bank is fortunate to have friends like Tanger Outlets who share our vision of ending hunger in Coastal South Carolina," said Pat Walker, President and CEO of Lowcountry Food Bank. "By helping us to collect most needed items such as tuna, peanut butter and canned vegetables, Tanger is helping us to serve the 1 in 6 individuals in our community who experience hunger and raising awareness for our neighbors in need. Together we are leading the fight against hunger."

"This partnership is an example of how our community rallies together to help the more than 200,000 individuals in our coastal communities who experience hunger," said South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. "On behalf of all South Carolinians I would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to the Lowcountry Food Bank and Tanger Outlets for leading the fight against hunger."
