LINCROFT, NJ --(Marketwired - November 13, 2015) - Rain showers and gloomy skies could not stop a leading Lincroft family dental office from providing nearly $50,000 in free dentistry in early October.

Newman Springs Dental Care recently joined with multiple area dentists, oral health professionals and volunteers to host its 9th Dentistry From The Heart, a program that provides free dental care to those who are uninsured or underinsured.

Dr. Mitchel Friedman, who owns Newman Springs Dental Care, is responsible for bringing Dentistry From The Heart to New Jersey, and has since treated more than 1,100 patients during the annual event that provides free examinations, cleanings, dental fillings and extractions.

"Our motto is always 'Paying it Forward with Charity and Gratitude,'" Dr. Friedman said. "Dr. Julia Cintron is a native Spanish speaker, as were several volunteers. This made the non-English-speaking patients feel at ease and better understand their dental issues."

This year's event was held on Oct. 1 and provided care to 95 patients, totaling $47,565 in dental treatment. The practice began treating patients at 7 a.m., but some patients waited in the rain hours before the event to secure their spot. Although Newman Springs Dental Care hosted the event, the corporate sponsor was Henry Schein Dental, a worldwide medical provider.

In addition to free cleanings, fillings and extractions, the volunteers provided free oral cancer screenings using the technology VELscope. This handheld device uses a special light to expose abnormal cells not visible to the naked eye.

"Our hope is that this continues to be an annual event and that others can be inspired to give back to benefit their community," Dr. Friedman said. "We were the first to bring Dentistry From The Heart to New Jersey in 2007, and now there are several offices that have their own events to assist those in need. That is personally very gratifying to me."

The volunteers for this year's Dentistry From The Heart included: Dr. Friedman, Dr. Cintron, Dr. Jeffrey Zatzkin, Dr. Jared Gelband, Dr. Allan Ruda, Dr. Justin Ponquinette, Dr. Randall Davis, Dr. Beth DeAngelis, Dr. Aparna Menon, Dr. Tejal Darji, Dr. Prachi Shah, Jennifer DeMarco, Laura Schifkovitz, Laura Read, Tabitha Aguilar, Keary Bennett, Pauline Howard, Lindsey Silva, Linda Paris, Roxanne Motley, Amanda Butler, Megan Troy, Takiya Foster, Stephanie Talbot, Noah Schayowitz, Maurissa Cummings, Jessica Lees, Victoria Maglio, Michael DeMarco Jr., Ida Whittaker, Kim Brooks, Mike DeMarco, LaDina Alls, Michael Strycharz, Susan Friedman, Dawn Steinberg, Meghan Mooney and Sue Richman. Students from Rutgers Allied Dental Health included Alejandra Avalos, Gabriela Sousa, Michelle Bizzarro and Jodie Pompa.
