OAKVILLE, ON --(Marketwired - October 08, 2015) - As Canadians gather to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are asking everyone to protect themselves and one another against impaired driving.

"If you are going to be drinking this holiday weekend, please arrange a sober ride home," said MADD Canada National President Angeliki Souranis. "It really could be the difference between life and death for yourself, your passengers and other motorists sharing the road with you."

Every day, on average, four people are killed and 175 are injured in impairment-related crashes which are completely, 100%, preventable. MADD Canada, its volunteers across the country, community partners and corporate sponsors such as Allstate Insurance Company of Canada, encourage Canadians to protect themselves and one another:

-- don't drive impaired -- call a cab, take public transit, arrange a
designated driver or plan to stay overnight;
-- don't ride with drivers who are impaired;
-- if you see a driver you suspect is impaired, call 911 and report it to
police.

"Impaired driving destroys lives, devastates families and causes immeasurable grief," said Allstate Insurance Company of Canada President and Chief Executive Officer John O'Donnell. "Allstate Canada and our Agents across the country join MADD Canada in making an appeal to all Canadians -- arrange for a sober ride home as part of your Thanksgiving festivities. Preventing senseless tragedies by making safe and responsible decisions is something we can all be thankful for."

MADD Canada and Allstate Canada also take this occasion to thank the millions of Canadians who do their part to prevent impaired driving.

"To every Canadian who plans ahead, arranges a sober ride home, or acts as the designated driver this weekend, thank you," Ms. Souranis said. "You are leading by example and your efforts are very much appreciated."
