Sports Authority to Collect Donations for the National Sports Center for the Disabled
Sports Authority, one of the largest full-line sporting goods retailers in the United States and Puerto Rico, announced today that it will collect point-of-sale donations at Sports Authority locations nationwide to support the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) throughout the month of October. As part of their ongoing efforts to support the NSCD, Sports Authority has set the goal of raising $150,000 to help fund NSCD initiatives. All proceeds will go toward enriching the lives of children and adults with disabilities.
"We truly believe in the mission of the NSCD and are proud to maintain an ongoing partnership with such an outstanding organization, especially to help raise awareness and resources for a great cause," said Michael Foss, Chief Executive Officer of Sports Authority. "We believe in celebrating the good in sport and the NSCD does a tremendous job providing therapeutic sports and recreational programs for individuals with disabilities. We are excited for our employees and customers to come together and support such a worthwhile cause."
The NSCD is recognized around the world as the premier therapeutic recreation organization, providing leadership and expertise in adaptive sports. Each year more than 3,000 children and adults with disabilities participate in year-round sports and recreational NSCD programs.
"We are grateful to have Sports Authority's support throughout the years. They have been a wonderful partner, helping us raise awareness about our organization and providing financial support to the NSCD," said Becky Zimmermann, President and CEO of NSCD. "With October being National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we are especially thankful to have Sports Authority's help in enabling the human spirit through therapeutic sports and recreation."

The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) began in 1970 as a one-time ski lesson for children with amputations for the Children's Hospital of Denver. Today, the NSCD is one of the largest outdoor therapeutic recreation agencies in the world. Each year, thousands of children and adults with disabilities take to the ski slopes, mountain trails and playing fields to learn more about sports—and themselves. With specially trained staff and its own adaptive equipment lab, the NSCD teaches a variety of sports and activities to individuals with almost any physical, cognitive, emotional, or behavioral diagnosis.
