Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) July 29, 2015

ColoGuard, one of New York City's top colocation providers, today weighed in on the news that the supply of all IPv4 addresses has been exhausted, and assured clients that IPv6 addresses were available at the facility, and that they had been since 2013.

On July 6, ARIN - the American Registry for Internet Numbers - announced that its IPv4 registry is depleted, and that any users or groups requiring further IPv4 addresses will have to either join its waiting list or source them from an alternative market. In the meantime, IPv6 usage will very likely see a spike in the coming months.

"The Internet has grown at a rate that the creators of IPv4 couldn't possibly have predicted," said ColoGuard VP Ruben Magurdumov. "How could they have known it would become such a vital part of modern society, or that there would be more computers than people? They couldn't have."

First developed in 1981, IPv4 had the capacity to offer 4.3 billion unique IP addresses, and served as the primary protocol upon which the Internet operates since its inception. By the mid 90s, it rapidly became clear that, given the Internet's current growth model, IPv4 would soon be insufficient. This led to the creation of a new protocol, IPv6; a replacement which offers a significantly larger selection of addresses.

"It's fortunate that IPv6 was developed when it was," Magurdumov continued. "Had all of this not been predicted in advance, it would very likely have been a catastrophe. Thankfully, the presence of the IPv6 protocol means that IPv4 depletion is more an inconvenience than anything - and one that we're ready and able to help our clients surmount."

Magurdumov went on to emphasize that ColoGuard is prepared to assist clients with IPv6 and any related issues. ColoGuard is currently offering their first month free to new clients, IPv6 addresses included, with no setup fees, no cross connect fees, and 24/7 support.
