NSF International gluten-free certification helps producers in Latin America demonstrate compliance with U.S. regulations for gluten-free labeled export products

LIMA, Peru (PRWEB) July 08, 2015

Global public health organization NSF International has certified 21 products produced by Peruvian Nature to the NSF International Gluten-Free Certification Program. Peruvian Nature is the first company in Peru to earn this certification for its products, demonstrating to U.S. buyers and consumers that these products have been tested and verified to meet U.S. regulations for gluten-free labeled products.

Based in Peru's Lurin Valley, Peruvian Nature specializes in producing food ingredients native to Peru such as camu, golden berry, lucuma, maca, sweet potato, quinoa and yacon root. Peruvian Nature's NSF International gluten-free certification provides assurance to U.S. buyers that their certified products comply with the gluten-free final rule issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which requires products labeled as gluten-free to contain less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten.

To earn NSF International gluten-free certification for its products, Peruvian Nature developed a robust gluten-free compliance plan for its production and handling facilities and successfully passed on-site facility audits conducted by NSF International. The facility audit ensures an effective gluten-free quality management system is in place and includes an evaluation of the facility's supplier assurance, Good Manufacturing Practices and ongoing testing and training programs. NSF International auditors also collect random samples of products, which are then tested to verify gluten levels are below the 20 ppm limit. Facilities are audited and products are tested annually to verify ongoing compliance to the program.

"Earning gluten-free certification from a trusted public health organization like NSF International provides assurance to our customers that our products comply with U.S. regulations for gluten-free labeled foods," said Gabriela Llontop, Marketing Manager of Peruvian Nature.

"Peruvian Nature is truly leading its industry by being the first company in Peru to earn NSF International gluten-free certification for its products. The demand for gluten-free foods in the U.S. has grown tremendously in recent years and is expected to reach $6.6 billion by 2017. Earning NSF International gluten-free certification helps producers in Latin America access this growing market by demonstrating that their products comply with U.S. regulations," said Jaclyn Bowen, Manager of NSF International's Consumer Values Verified Program, which offers gluten-free, Non-GMO Project and other product claim verifications.

Products meeting all certification requirements are authorized to bear the NSF Certified Gluten-Free mark and are included in NSF International's online product listings.
