Renewable Choice Staff Honored by USGBC Volunteer Service Award

Leadership in green building is recognized at Convergence 2015

Renewable Choice Energy announced today that a technical expert from its staff has been recognized with the President's Volunteer Service Award at the US Green Building Council's (USGBC) 2015 Convergence Event.

Renewable Choice's Director of Green Building, Lana Carmichael, was selected in 2014 to serve as the green power & carbon offset subject-matter expert on the USGBC Energy & Atmosphere Technical Advisory Group. This week, in honor of its efforts to contribute to the 2014 green building movement, the Advisory Group received the President's Volunteer Service Award, a "premier volunteer award program that encourages citizens to lead a life of service." Collectively, the Advisory Group donated more 470 volunteer hours in service of energy-related matters in the LEED® green building rating system.

The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 1998 and has certified more than 2.8 billion square feet. The building standard awards points to global green construction projects that result in LEED certification. Under USGBC guidelines, a project can receive points under the Energy & Atmosphere Green Power Credit for the purchase of renewable energy credits (RECs) and carbon offsets that are Green-e certified.

The Green Power Credit allows projects to support renewable energy development by choosing RECs and carbon offsets, offering affordable points toward LEED certification that significantly reduce a project's environmental impact. Renewable Choice has been a member of the USGBC since 2003 and has supplied green power to more than 6,000 certified LEED projects worldwide.
