United Theological Seminary hosted its 142nd commencement service on Friday, May 22, 2015, at Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church in Tipp City, Ohio. The Seminary awarded 40 master's degrees and 80 doctoral degrees, and graduated one non-degree student. During the ceremony, 16 students, both current and graduating, were honored with special awards.

Bishop Mark J. Webb of the Upper New York Area of The United Methodist Church addressed the graduating class. In a sermon titled "The Main Things," Bishop Webb urged the graduates to remember the basics of their faith.

"Don't let your credentials fool you. Don't let your degrees fool you," he said. "The power's not in the robe. The power's not in the stole. The power is in a vibrant, living relationship with Jesus Christ."

Preaching on scripture from 2 Timothy 1, Bishop Webb emphasized the importance of boldly relying on the gifts God has given each person in order to grow in faith and share the Gospel.

"God has given you every gift you need to accomplish the mission that God has called you to. God has equipped you to be the leaders that the church needs for this 21st century," he said. "Let God stir up those gifts."
