Team of 8 men and women choose the nationally recognized Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center to be recipient of charity ride across America

Newburyport, MA (PRWEB) April 21, 2015

A team of 8 men and women organized by Pat Kelly of West Newbury, MA, is participating in the Race Across America to benefit the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center. Riverside RAAM "Team Pedal to Empower" includes racers from all disciplines of cycling; road racers, endurance mountain bike racers, triathletes, cyclocross racers and hill climbers. The team of 8 has a mission to race 3,000 miles in less than 6 days and have chosen the 2015 RAAM for the ultimate challenge in endurance, teamwork and finding the strength from within. The team has also chosen to ride on behalf of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center (JGCC) for the very same reasons.

Since 1982, the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center has been providing hope and meeting the needs of families in crisis due to domestic violence. Their innovative Domestic Violence Homicide Risk Team (DVHRT) homicide prevention model gained national recognition from the White House in 2010 and 2011, resulting in funding from the Department of Justice Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) to train communities across the country to replicate the model and its effectiveness at predicting and preventing domestic violence homicide. The Center has provided training for more than 5,000 criminal justice professionals and advocates as well as providing training and technical assistance to representatives from 42 states and territories.

On their coast to coast journey, "Team Pedal to Empower" will be riding for domestic violence victims everywhere to illustrate the power of the human spirit when faced with adversity and to share the Center's very meaningful message that everyone has a right to live free from fear, intimidation, violence and the threat of abuse. The team chose the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center because of their cutting edge work with victims of domestic violence, youth prevention, education, and homicide prevention work."Our team will use each and every bump in the road to make the world aware of the good that is being done by the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, here in Massachusetts" noted Pat Kelly.

Suzanne Dubus, CEO of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, is excited about the opportunity to promote awareness, education, and prevention in this high endurance race. She commented, "We are honored to have the Riverside RAAM –‘Team Pedal to Empower,' race on behalf of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, raising funds and awareness for victims of domestic violence. They will test their determination, endurance and spirit; they will peddle to empower victims of domestic violence and by raising awareness, they will help to break the cycle of violence, one mile at a time."
