Stein Mart, Inc. Reports December Sales

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 8, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Stein Mart, Inc. SMRT today reported total sales for the five-week period ended January 3, 2015 of $189.5 million, a 7.9 percent increase over total sales of $175.6 million for the five-week period ended January 4, 2014. Comparable store sales for the five-week period ended January 3, 2015 increased 5.8 percent from comparable store sales for the five-week period ended January 4, 2014.

Total sales of $1.25 billion for the forty-eight week period ended January 3, 2015 increased 4.2 percent from total sales of $1.20 billion for the forty-eight week period ended January 4, 2014. Comparable store sales for the forty-eight week period ended January 3, 2015 increased 3.1 percent from comparable store sales for the forty-eight week period ended January 4, 2014.

Geographically, the Northeast, Midwest and Florida had the strongest sales in December, while the Gulf States and the West performed lower than the chain. One new store was opened during the month in Delray Beach, FL. The Company operated 270 stores at the end of December this year compared to 264 stores last year.
