The Kidney Cancer Association (KCA), has partnered with Inspire to create an online peer-to-peer support community

Los Angeles, Calif. (PRWEB) December 17, 2014

“Our Inspire Community is absolutely the best place a patient can go to learn from long-term survivors,” said KCA CEO Bill Bro, a 25 year kidney cancer survivor. “When I was diagnosed many years ago, there was nothing like Inspire, so those of us with kidney cancer were left to deal with this diagnosis on our own.”

Recent Inspire Community Kidney Cancer discussion topics include:

  •     information for newly diagnosed patients
  •     experiences with various drugs used to treat advanced disease
  •     a discussion of the use of statins by those living with kidney cancer
  •     information on interpreting your pathology report

For Inspire, partnering with KCA is a welcome addition, as about a quarter of Inspire's 500,000+ members are affected by cancer. “KCA members are valuable contributors,” said Inspire CEO Brian Loew. Inspire has partnerships with more than 100 nonprofit patient advocacy organizations.

Kidney cancer will affect more than 60,000 American families in 2015. For the vast majority of those with advanced disease, a cure remains to be discovered.

About the Kidney Cancer Association

KCA is the world's first international charity dedicated specifically to the eradication of death and suffering from renal cancers. It is also by far the largest organization of its kind, with members in more than 100 countries. It funds, promotes, and collaborates with the National Cancer Institute (NCI), American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Urological Association (AUA), and other institutions on research projects. Hollywood celebrity Denise Richards, whose mother died from kidney cancer in 2007, serves on the KCA board and helps to raise funds and awareness.
