Stanley Bergman Recognized for Advancing Access to Care for Underserved Communities Around the World and Henry Schein's Long-Term Support of MedShare

MELVILLE, N.Y., Dec. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Henry Schein, Inc. HSIC, the world's largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health and medical practitioners, announced today that Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein, was honored at MedShare's fourth annual "Share the Good Gala," hosted recently by the organization's Northeast Regional Council in New York.

Mr. Bergman was recognized for spearheading Henry Schein's commitment to expand access to care globally for underserved communities and for the Company's decade-long support of MedShare.  Founded in 1998, MedShare is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health care and the environment through the efficient recovery and redistribution of surplus medical supplies and equipment to those most in need in the United States and abroad.

"On behalf of more than 17,000 Team Schein Members around the world, it is truly an honor to receive this recognition from MedShare, a partner that all of us at Henry Schein admire, respect and value," said Mr. Bergman, who addressed the Gala attendees. "It is particularly gratifying because MedShare is one of Henry Schein's very first international Non-Government Organization (NGO) partners. Its vision to put to use what would otherwise be discarded medical products and equipment has helped provide life-saving care to millions of people. MedShare makes a positive difference in our world, and Henry Schein looks forward to continuing our relationship for many years to come."

Henry Schein has provided more than $2 million in financial and in-kind donations to MedShare, which has shipped more than 1,100 40-foot containers to support more than 3,200 medical mission teams in 96 countries since its inception. Additionally, in 2014, as part of the Company's commitment to MedShare, Henry Schein donated furniture, supplies and a forklift to help equip MedShare's new Northeast Collection and Sort Center in Secaucus, N.J.

"Henry Schein is one of our oldest partners and most steadfast supporters," said MedShare CEO and President Charles Redding. "MedShare started as a one-person operation in donated warehouse space in Atlanta. Since then, we have grown to become a thriving organization with offices in three major U.S. cities. Our ability to supply people and communities with vital medical resources, personnel and infrastructure is in large part thanks to the generous donations made by Henry Schein over the years. Our partnership is strong now and continues to strengthen with every passing year, helping us bring care to so many in need. We thank Henry Schein for all their tremendous support."

In addition to financial and in-kind contributions, Henry Schein has supported MedShare through Team Schein Member service on the organization's governing bodies and councils. Ashley Lenz, Manager of Henry Schein Cares, the Company's global corporate social responsibility program, is a member of MedShare's Northeast Regional Council, and Susan Vassallo, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Henry Schein, is a former member of MedShare's Board of Trustees.
