Pepco Holdings Executive Wins Woman of the Year Award

Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI) vice president of Corporate Communications Laura Monica is the 2014 Washington PR Woman of the Year. The award is presented each year by the professional society, Washington Women in Public Relations (WWPR). The group named three finalists, including Monica, and honored them as the most talented women in the public relations profession.

WWPR recognized Monica for her leadership, vision and perseverance during the dramatic reputation turnaround at PHI since she started in 2011. Monica is responsible for external and internal communications for PHI, a regional energy holding company that provides utility service to about two million customers in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Delaware and southern New Jersey.

“This honor is a reflection of the tireless work and major investments PHI has dedicated to improving reliability and customer satisfaction,” Monica said. Customer satisfaction reached its highest rating in more than a decade with Monica directing all communications.

Over the next five years, PHI expects to spend $6.6 billion on additional investments to further improve reliability and customer service which will include replacing aging infrastructure and installing advanced technologies.

PHI announced a merger agreement with Exelon Corporation in April that is currently going through the regulatory approval process. The merger will further the significant system reliability progress already underway at PHI utilities. Both companies have committed to continuing their long tradition of philanthropy in communities they serve.
