Moms Invited to Shower at the Scott County Health Clinic on Oct. 22

Tampa, Fla. (PRWEB) October 17, 2014

WellCare Health Plans, Inc. WCG invites new and expectant moms in the Georgetown, Ky., area to its community baby shower at the Scott County Health Clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Attendees will receive a free Boba Wrap child carrier sling to keep their little one snug, diapers to keep them dry and a baby book to keep their memories safe.

The shower is a part of the Mama to Mama weekly peer support group, which is sponsored by a $12,000 grant from WellCare of Kentucky. The baby shower and the support group offer expectant moms and mothers with babies up to 12-months-old a place where they can connect with other moms, access available resources for themselves and their babies, and receive emotional support. Baby shower and Mama to Mama peer support group attendees also receive a nutritious meal. There are no costs or requirements to participate.

“We are grateful to have WellCare sponsor these programs because the baby shower is a great way to introduce pregnant and new moms to the benefits of our Mama to Mama peer support group,” said Shannon Stone, executive director at Mama to Mama. “Once women join the group we can help them access any additional resources they or their babies need, like medical attention and counseling.”

“Since January 2014, we have seen the pregnancy rate within our membership more than double in Georgetown, Ky.,” said Sarah McKinnie, manager of advocacy and community-based programs for WellCare. “We are investing in these programs and partnering with the University of Louisville to independently evaluate them in order to increase the quality of care and services our moms and babies receive. Early findings show that participation in the support group improves postpartum depression and parenting confidence.”

Interested moms should RSVP by Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 502-417-6806. To learn more about Mama to Mama visit http://mamatomama.us/ or email info(at)mamatomama(dot)us.
