“Empowering Innovators” event highlights international collaboration in science and entrepreneurship.

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) October 14, 2014

CRDF Global announced today its 2014 Annual Awards Gala honorees. Jeff Hoffman, founder of Priceline.com, uBid.com and ColorJar, will receive the 2014 George Brown Award for International Scientific Cooperation, and Schlumberger Limited SLB will receive CRDF Global's inaugural Corporate Impact Award. The Annual Awards Gala dinner will be held November 12 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. The theme is “Empowering Innovators.”

Founded in 1995, CRDF Global is an independent nonprofit that promotes international collaboration in science and entrepreneurship. This year's Gala will celebrate CRDF Global's innovative program and service work in more than 40 countries worldwide. Contact awards(at)crdfglobal(dot)org for more.

The first-ever CRDF Global Corporate Impact Award will recognize Schlumberger for its leadership in supporting research and development worldwide. Schlumberger is the leading supplier of technology, integrated project management and information solutions to customers in the oil and gas industry worldwide. Through its Schlumberger Foundation, an independent nonprofit entity that supports science, engineering and technology education, Schlumberger recognizes the link between science, engineering, technology, and socio-economic development.

Schlumberger partnered with CRDF Global beginning in 1998, as the company developed indigenous research capabilities and a trained workforce. The partnerships spanned oil and gas research, student scholarships, geophysical sciences and engineering, material and manufacturing sciences, chemical sciences and engineering and mathematical and computational sciences. Schlumberger's partnership with CRDF Global lasted more than 10 years, and had a significant impact on the company's ability to stay in-country while developing its future workforce.

"Schlumberger is committed to minimizing its impact on the environment and to develop innovative technologies that reduce environmental footprints for its oil and gas customers. In line with our commitment, the collaboration with CRDF Global has always focused on developing a competent workforce of scientific and engineering communities around the world,” said Jean-Francois Poupeau, Executive Vice President, Schlumberger Limited. “This award represents our shared pledge to support science, engineering, and technology education – and our determination to seek opportunities that limit environmental impact, leverage socio-economic development, and support the safety and security of our employees worldwide," said Poupeau.

This year's recipient of the George Brown Award for International Scientific Cooperation, Jeff Hoffman, has worked closely with CRDF Global as a member of the Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Initiative advisory council. Through GIST and other efforts, Hoffman has mentored entrepreneurs across the Middle East, Turkey, Asia and Africa. Hoffman serves on the boards of companies in the U.S., Europe, South America, Africa and Asia.

"I have always embraced digging in and getting my hands in the dirt when it comes to nurturing innovation and empowering ideas that can create real impact,” said Jeff Hoffman. “I think that's why it has always been a pleasure for me to work with CRDF Global. We share a common goal to create opportunities for innovators around the world through on-the-ground mentorship and investment in great ideas, no matter where the people with those ideas live. It is one of my greatest passions to serve as mentor to many international entrepreneurs and I look forward to continuing a great partnership with CRDF Global," said Jeff Hoffman.

“On behalf of the CRDF Global Board of Directors, we are pleased to honor Jeff Hoffman and Schlumberger,” said CRDF Global President and CEO, Cathy Campbell. “We have learned so much from working with Jeff and have seen first-hand how he inspires young entrepreneurs in the United States and abroad. Schlumberger is an ideal recipient of CRDF Global's inaugural corporate award. Our pioneering partnership with Schlumberger allowed us to pursue our shared goals abroad and led to improved research capabilities and opportunities for scientists,” Campbell said.

CRDF Global's Annual Awards Gala has become a showcase of pioneers in international science, business and policy. Prior George Brown Award recipients include Mr. Norman Augustine; Ms. Henrietta Fore; Mr. William Draper, III; Sen. Richard Lugar; Dr. Norman Borlaug; Dr. Rita Colwell; Dr. David Hamburg and Dr. Charles Vest.
