New Integration Combines FireEye Threat Intelligence with MobileIron App Security and Management to Enable New Data Loss Prevention Capabilities for Mobile Enterprise Apps

MOUNTAIN VIEW and MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MobileIron MOBL, the leader in enterprise mobility management (EMM), and FireEye, Inc. FEYE, the leader in stopping today's advanced cyber attacks, today announced an integration between MobileIron and the FireEye® Mobile Threat Prevention (MTP) solution. The integration enables IT departments to take proactive security actions through the MobileIron platform in response to the mobile app threats identified by FireEye.

This integration is the next step in the evolution of app security from signature-based agents that degrade system performance and only reactively spot threats to behavior-based analytics that provide the threat intelligence IT needs to proactively take action and establish policies to mitigate the risk of data loss.

"Mobile security is a top concern for security professionals.  Mobile malware is rapidly evolving and often focuses on leveraging legitimate permissions and user actions in unauthorized ways to steal data," said Jon Oltsik, senior principal analyst with the Enterprise Strategy Group. "Knowing what an app does with the information it controls is critical to preventing expensive data loss."

Mobile threats evolve rapidly and focus on using legitimate permissions and user actions in unauthorized ways to steal data. FireEye Mobile Threat Prevention determines the risk level of mobile apps by connecting disparate actions to reveal hidden, unauthorized behaviors. By analyzing malware, ad-ware, vulnerabilities and app behaviors and classifying the risks, FireEye detected 356 unseen mobile threats in the first half of 2014. The FireEye MTP integration with MobileIron pairs this intelligence with MobileIron's leading app security and management capabilities, so organizations can proactively set policies and more confidently take action to protect corporate resources.

"Mobile attacks are quickly emerging as an avenue for accessing corporate data and organizations have to be prepared to mitigate threats that come in through both corporate and third party apps," said Steve Pataky, vice president of global channels and strategic alliances, FireEye. "With this integration, FireEye and MobileIron are now providing our joint customers with the threat intelligence and app management capabilities to help keep their corporate data secure against fast moving mobile threats."

"Our alliance with FireEye helps enterprises get smarter so they can minimize the potential impact of a breach," said Ojas Rege, vice president of strategy, MobileIron. "FireEye Mobile Threat Prevention is the latest example of mobile innovation in the thriving MobileIron partner ecosystem."

The integration of FireEye MTP with MobileIron is designed so that enterprises can:

  • Understand which applications are deployed on mobile devices
  • Gain granular, enterprise-wide visibility into mobile application vulnerabilities
  • Determine whether applications present risky or aggressive behaviors that pose a threat to enterprise data
  • Make informed decisions about which applications should be allowed, or disallowed, based on the behavior of these mobile apps
  • Protect corporate data against a proliferation of attacks
