WALLDORF, Germany, Sept. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With one year to go until the 2015 Solheim Cup and as the official global technology partner, SAP SE SAP today previewed its plans to drive a new digital golf experience at one of the most prestigious tournaments in women's golf. As a first step with this initiative, a new Solheim Cup 2015 mobile app for fan engagement powered by SAP HANA® Cloud Platform was unveiled at the Solheim Cup Charity Promotion Event taking place September 13-16, 2014, in Heidelberg, Germany, at the Golf Club St. Leon-Rot. The charity event offers visitors a chance to get closer to the sport of golf, win prizes and watch a charity golf match and driving competition with golf's top professionals, including SAP ambassadors Paula Creamer and Martin Kaymer.

At the 2015 Solheim Cup, Europe's 12 best female golfers will compete against the 12 best female players from the U.S. With more than 100,000 visitors expected, the three-day, bi-annual tournament will be held for the first time on German soil in its 25-year long history at the Golf Club St. Leon-Rot. As a result of an SAP-led design thinking workshop with the Ladies European Tour (LET), Allianz and Golf Club St. Leon-Rot, the Solheim Cup 2015 mobile app was created to ensure fans are informed, entertained and involved like never before at a Solheim Cup. The mobile app provides venue information, team and player profiles, social media functionality and an interactive quiz. To ensure a smarter and more sustainable commute to and from the tournament, the app offers up-to-date travel and parking information, as well as integration with the popular TwoGo® by SAP mobile app for ride sharing. By the second half of 2015 the app is expected to provide real-time match and scoring details, live streaming and prediction game challenges.

"Since 2013, SAP has served as the official technology partner of the Solheim Cup," said Ivan Khodabkhsh, CEO, Ladies European Tour. "We expect the new Solheim Cup 2015 mobile app powered by SAP HANA Cloud Platform will dramatically simplify and improve a spectator's experience by integrating key aspects of the tournament and social media functionality into a single, visually-rich app. This fan app is just the first step in creating a breakthrough digital experience at the 2015 Solheim Cup."

On September 16 attendees of Solheim Cup Charity Promotion Event at the Golf Club St. Leon-Rot can see the 2015 Solheim Cup 2015 mobile app, the SAP Big Data Truck, as well as the latest technology concepts aimed at providing fans with a unique digital experience at the 2015 Solheim Cup. SAP will showcase how an envisioned next-generation golf analytics solution powered by SAP HANA Cloud Platform can improve player performance and training efficiency, based on collecting insights on distance, power and efficiency from large, complex data sets captured from various different wearable and sensor technologies. As part of the charity golf tournament, this conceptual golf analytics solution is intended to help capture and present the longest drive competition results via a real-time longest drive leader board.

"The Solheim Cup carries a level of energy and excitement on a global scale that is only comparable to the Ryder Cup in men's golf," said Chris Burton, group vice president for Global Sponsorships, SAP. "This presents a perfect opportunity for SAP to bring Solheim Cup fans as close to the action as possible. So in addition to the Solheim Cup 2015 mobile app, we are previewing a technology showcase powered by SAP HANA Cloud Platform aimed at providing a breakthrough digital golf experience at the 2015 Solheim Cup. We believe that our best practices and deep expertise in sports technology, such as our recent involvement with the German Football Association at the World Cup in Brazil, can enhance athlete and organizational performance and fan participation in golf."

The Solheim Cup 2015 mobile app is available for download at the Apple App Store and Google play. The proceeds raised at the Solheim Cup Charity Promotion Event will go to Franz Beckenbauer Foundation, German School Sport Foundation, Saving an Angel Foundation and Children for Tomorrow Foundation.
