SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Unveiled for the first time today, the wax likeness of the late Jimi Hendrix, famed rock-and-roll musician, was unveiled by his brother, Leon Hendrix at Madame Tussauds San Francisco. The rock icon is frequently associated with San Francisco's legendary music scene from Haight-Ashbury and the Summer of Love. The figure reveal celebrates Jimi Hendrix Day and honors the 44th anniversary of his death on September 18, 1970.

Widely regarded as the most influential electric guitarist of all time, Jimi briefly resided in the Bay Area and reportedly lived in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood during the 1960s. Jimi also spent time as a child at the Savo Island Naval Housing project in Berkeley.

The late legend's legacy now lives on at Madame Tussauds San Francisco, where Bay Area visitors will have the opportunity to interact with Jimi among other influential icons, who have not just only shaped San Francisco's cultural landscape, but the world as whole. “Jimi has left a lasting impression on the world through his music and spirit,” says Leon Hendrix. “The representation and detail of his figure is uncanny. It's an honor to see him immortalized in this fashion.”

As with most Madame Tussauds figures, a team of 20 artists worked over three months to create the lifelike figure. Visitors will also notice authenticity and detail extends to Jimi's guitar, which is strung in the unusual fashion the guitar legend preferred, left-handed, upside down. Measurements were extracted from photos of Jimi and each strand of hair was inserted by hand individually. Visitors are able to get up-close and personal and examine the incredible detail and artistry of the intricate figure because there are no ropes or barriers at Madame Tussauds, providing guests a fully immersive experience.

“We are honored that Leon Hendrix could join us in the unveiling of his brother's figure in honor of historic Jim Hendrix day,” said Madame Tussauds General Manager, Adrea Gibbs. “Jimi Hendrix's figure will make a great addition to the Spirit of San Francisco room, a space in the attraction that is solely dedicated to San Francisco's unique culture and most iconic figures.”

Madame Tussauds San Francisco is the newest attraction at the historic Fisherman's Wharf District and provides guests of all ages with a fun and interactive experience as they come face-to-face with wax likenesses of everyone from A-list stars and athletes, to politicians and cultural icons from the city and around the world.
