Active Defense 2.0 Analyzes and Detects Malicious Code in Memory and Helps to Pinpoint Compromised Systems in Order to Eliminate Threats

FAIRFAX, Va., Aug. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ManTech's MANT Cyber Solutions International, Inc. business unit announces a major update to its award-winning endpoint malware protection platform Active Defense.  Active Defense 2.0, powered by MCSI-patented Digital DNA technology, identifies specific behavioral traits of every process running in memory and helps security teams detect new malware including zero-days, rootkits, and targeted attacks.

Active Defense's collection and analysis tool empowers incident responders to determine all points of infection, identify lingering malicious files and system changes, and generate threat intelligence to harden endpoints against future attacks. By streamlining the detection and incident response lifecycle, Active Defense allows security teams to rapidly scale investigative efforts to tens of thousands of endpoints without the expensive help of highly skilled analysts. New enhancements to Active Defense 2.0 include the following:

  • Scalable infrastructure allows incident responders to portion the various functions of the Active Defense server onto multiple pieces of hardware. The robust infrastructure is now able to scale to very large environments, distributing load across a deployment of multiple Active Defense servers. IT teams can deploy Active Defense across geographically dispersed teams and yield the benefits of enterprise-level visibility of malware analysis.
  • On-demand scanning of a host, without permanently installing an agent. When requested, Active Defense will automatically deploy the scanner, perform the scan, and then remove it when complete. These scans, as with permanently deployed agents, probe the lowest level attributes of files, modules, resource handles, and other system objects, and can be used to search raw physical memory, the live operating system, and all disk volumes on the endpoint.
  • Streamlined agent deployment results in smoother deployment. Active Defense keeps count of deployed agents without licensing each individual. This yields easier day-to-day operations for IT teams with a flexible way to grow and shrink the number of deployed agents based on need.

"Active Defense 2.0 goes above and beyond quick reporting and dashboards, and brings to market a solution with a scalable architecture and need-based scanning on any endpoint," said Raj Dodhiawala, VP of products and marketing, ManTech Cyber Solutions International. "Active Defense offers the unparalleled capability to analyze and detect malicious codes executing in memory, allowing incident responders to efficiently pinpoint compromised systems, determine the scope of breach, and ultimately eliminate the threats."

MCSI Active Defense powered by Digital DNA is a fast, automatic detection solution for new and evolving threats with capabilities for every phase of the incident response lifecycle. To monitor, Active Defense proactively scans processes in physical memory for malicious behaviors. Active Defense detects malware by using Digital DNA behavioral analysis to score traits that recognize breach indicators and identify new malware. To analyze, Active Defense collects and analyzes critical digital artifacts from physical memory and disk with a single click. Finally, Active Defense responds by viewing aggregated status and supports large-scale, consistent incident response by automating these operations enterprise-wide.
