CANADIAN STUDENTS AWARDED $37,000 IN BURGER KING McLAMORE^SM FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

BURGER KING(SM) Scholars Program Helps 37 Students Find Success

MIAMI - July 17, 2014 - The BURGER KING McLAMORE(SM) Foundation recently awarded 37 students in Canada with a $1,000 scholarship to advance their education.

The Foundation, which is the philanthropic arm of the BURGER KING^® system, announced that 37 students from across several of Canada's provinces and territories were awarded the BURGER KING(SM) Scholars $1,000 scholarship. These students demonstrated outstanding achievements in their academic and community activities so they could pursue a higher education.

"James W. McLamore was a great visionary who believed education was an ongoing part of the professional journey," said Jill Granat, president of the BURGER KING McLAMORE(SM) Foundation. "We are honored to carry on Mr. McLamore's vision by granting scholarships in varying amounts to more than 2,300 deserving students in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico this year."

Toronto, Ontario's Kendall Mar, a recent graduate from Malvern Collegiate Institute, was one of this year's BURGER KING(SM) Scholars recipients. She participates in several sports and other clubs, and is heavily involved in the community through leadership roles at summer camps and food drives. Kendall also was part of the Kizuna Project, through which she went to Japan to learn about the earthquake and tsunami that hit in March 2011, raising more than $3,000 for families in need.

"Through my involvement in both local volunteer efforts and community initiatives, I believe I have made a positive contribution toward making my community a better place to live," said Kendall, who will be attending the University of Ottawa as a Psychology major. "Financial help from this scholarship will help support my endeavor and allow me to be an active member in my future institution as well as a leader to initiate positive change within my community."

Scholarship awards help students offset the cost of attending college or a post-secondary vocational/technical school. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average, extracurricular activities, community service and/or work experience.
