Morganville, NJ (PRWEB) July 31, 2014

Millions of people avoid going to the dentist each year. Some have had traumatic experiences as a child and some simply fear the pain that may occur during dental work. As a highly experienced NJ cosmetic dentist, Dr. Richard Champagne understands that some patients may experience anxiety during their dental procedure. To help these patients receive the dental care they need, the experienced team at Champagne Smiles offer several sedation dentistry techniques.

Sedation dentistry is the answer for those patients whom prefer to have a more relaxed dental experience. Some patients refuse to have any work done unless they are under sedation. There are many levels of sedation; ranging from mild to deep, in which a patient may not be conscious or responsive to the procedure taking place. Sedation can be administered in many ways, including via injection, inhalation, and taking medication. Opting for sedation dentistry yields many benefits. Some of these benefits include having control over the gag reflex, more comfort and relaxation, and more work can be performed in one sitting if necessary. This is a benefit to the dentist as well.

Dr. Richard Champagne offers four types of sedatives: Nitrous Oxide, Nitrous Oxide with Valium, Oral Conscious Sedation, and IV sedation. Nitrous Oxide is better known as “laughing gas”, which is a non-invasive sedative that allows patients to feel more comfortable while still having their consciousness. For those with a heightened nervousness, patients are encouraged to take Valium two hours before Nitrous Oxide is given. Oral Conscious sedation is given to patients via pills. These are usually taken before a visit to the dentist office and patients will enter a calm, sleep-like state. These patients are conscious and able to answer questions. IV sedation calls for a needle. Those that fear needles are encouraged to take nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation before a needle is given. IV sedation patients can understand questions and give answers. However, patients won't remember what happened to them once they wake up and the medication wears off.

The team at Champagne Smiles promises their patients exceptional care and results in a safe and comfortable environment. Dedicated to giving their patients an unsurpassed dental experience, Dr. Champagne and his staff look forward to treating anyone in need of dental care!
