DALLAS, July 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- National residential mortgage lender PrimeLending announces that it recently sponsored the first inaugural policy conference of the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals (VAREP), held June 8-11, 2014, in Washington, D.C.

Representing PrimeLending at the conference were Vice President/National Director of Multicultural Lending Latonia Donaldson, Senior Loan Originator David Doody (Baltimore, Md.), Loan Originator Roy Bhiro (Melville, N.Y.), Senior Loan Officer J. Rod Flowers (Salisbury, Md.) and Senior Loan Originator Ricardo Pacheco (Sacramento, Calif.).

VAREP's three-point policy positions include: 1) lawmakers must enact financial-literacy policy reforms that benefit service members and veterans 2) the VA loan program must be overhauled and modernized to compete with conventional and FHA loan programs and 3) financial institutions must work with government agencies to address service member mortgage complaints and ensure Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) compliance.

According to the findings from the National Veterans Survey, of those who used a loan other than a VA loan, 4.2 percent said their lender and/or real estate agent discouraged the use of the VA loan, while 8.4 percent said they did not know about the program. VAREP believes the actual numbers are much higher.

"The VA mortgage is one of the best loans in the marketplace," says Scott Bristol, PrimeLending's president. "As a proud proponent and originator of VA home loans, PrimeLending understands that veterans and active military members make excellent homeowners because of their loyalty, gratitude and discipline. We aim to serve our veteran and military borrowers with our VA mortgage expertise and local market presence."
