WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

On July 24, 2014, Washington Gas, a subsidiary of WGL WGL, began providing safe and reliable natural gas service to the residents and businesses in the Petersville, Md. district that includes Brunswick. The project has a planned 10-year build out that will provide service to approximately 1,505 mixed use units that include residential and commercial customers. Approximately 200 residential units are currently being converted from propane to natural gas.

“We are very proud to be a part of this important project and thank Pleasants Development for choosing abundant and domestically produced natural gas for their project,” said Douglas A. Staebler, Vice President of Operations, Engineering, Construction and Safety for Washington Gas. “Not only are we improving the quality of life for the current and future businesses and residents of Brunswick, but together, we are acting as good stewards of the environment by providing clean and affordable natural gas service.”

The project, initiated in 2009, is the culmination of a five-year collaborative effort between Washington Gas, Pleasants Development Company and municipality leaders in the Petersville District.

“It's exciting to see natural gas service expanded into the greater Brunswick area, which will help local residents and businesses reduce their energy costs,” stated Maryland Delegate Michael J. Hough (R), Frederick and Washington Counties. “Having this resource available makes the Brunswick area even more attractive to businesses looking to locate in this region. I applaud Washington Gas for making the investment to serve Brunswick.”

“Natural gas service was a key part of our energy and sustainability strategy for Brunswick Crossing. The comfort and reliability of natural gas is a ‘must have' amenity for today's homeowners,” said Karl J. Alt, Project Manager for Pleasants, the community's developer.
