Hibernia Networks Adds Cork Internet eXchange as a New Point of Presence

Hibernia Networks, a provider of global telecommunications services, announces that it has added Cork Internet eXchange (CIX), the regional data centre for Southwest Ireland, as a new Point of Presence (PoP) on its network. The PoP allows Hibernia to further expand its high capacity, international services throughout Cork, Munster and the island of Ireland.

Built in 2007 and open for business in March 2008, CIX is a critical piece of communications infrastructure for Cork and Munster. The facility is responsible for delivering IP connectivity to thousands of businesses and tens of thousands of homes from Kerry to Waterford via large telcos and regional Internet Service Providers (ISPs). CIX connects upstream to an extensive list of fibre providers and has a 30-metre telecommunications mast onsite, with a line of sight to Cork City and Cork County.

The subsea cable comes ashore at Portrush, Northern Ireland and connects to Hibernia's terrestrial fiber optic ring consisting of over a dozen Irish towns and cities, providing local and global commerce opportunities between the island of Ireland and the rest of the world.
