SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

AMZN—Amazon customers have chosen D.M. Pulley of Shaker Heights, OH, as the Grand Prize winner of the seventh annual Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest for her mystery novel The Dead Key. The Dead Key is expected to be released in early 2015 by Thomas & Mercer—an imprint of Amazon Publishing—and Katz will receive a $50,000 advance and publishing contract.

Pulley, who owns an engineering consulting business in Cleveland, was inspired to write The Dead Key after an on-the-job discovery of an underground vault that contained unclaimed, unopened safe deposit boxes. In her novel, two women, separated by twenty years, each find themselves wrapped up in a sordid secret involving an abandoned bank. The book is now available for pre-order in print and Kindle formats on Amazon.com at www.amazon.com/abna.

The remaining four category winners, Flora Solomon (General Fiction, A Pledge of Silence), Norma Darcy (Romance, The Bluestocking and the Rake), Chuck Grossart (Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror, The Mengele Effect) and Carrie Anne Noble (Young Adult Fiction, The Mermaid's Sister—previously titled: Seashell, Stork and Apple Tree) each received publishing contracts from Amazon Publishing with a $15,000 advance. Their books will also be released in print and Kindle formats in early 2015 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon.

The Dead Key is an atmospheric and richly detailed mystery featuring two spunky heroines separated by two decades but both embroiled in a dangerous secret involving an abandoned bank,” said Terry Goodman, Senior Editor, Lake Union Publishing. “It's a real page-turner and we're not surprised that Amazon customers chose it for the Grand Prize.”

The Amazon Publishing family consists of 15 imprints: 47North, AmazonCrossing, AmazonEncore, Amazon Publishing, Grand Harbor Press, Jet City Comics, Kindle Worlds, Lake Union Publishing, Little A, Montlake Romance, Skyscape, StoryFront, Thomas & Mercer, Two Lions and Waterfall Press.
