Magellan Complete Care of Florida Begins Serving Members in Regions 10 & 11

Magellan Complete Care of Florida, part of Magellan Health, Inc. MGLN, the first and only Medicaid specialty plan for individuals living with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) in the country, today began serving members in the first of its awarded regions – regions 10 and 11 – encompassing Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

Magellan Complete Care of Florida was selected by the state's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) in September 2013 as part of its Managed Medical Assistance program in eight regions across the state, including in 40 of Florida's 67 counties.

Across the country:

• Nearly 40 percent of adults living with SMI receive no treatment.
• Individuals living with SMI die up to 25 years earlier than their peers.
• Individuals living with SMI are unemployed at a rate of 78 percent.
• Individuals living with SMI are six to 12 times more likely than the general population to die by suicide.

Magellan Complete Care's model centers around a Care Coordination Team, which works with members, their doctors, counselors, family and caregivers to set goals for recovery and enjoying a healthier life. The Care Coordination Team includes a dedicated health guide who can assist members by scheduling and arranging transportation to appointments, working with providers, and helping members adhere to treatment plans.
