PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

University of Phoenix, a subsidiary of Apollo Education Group APOL, is saluting University of Phoenix military students and alumni this Independence Day. Today, the University recognizes Ohio Air National Guard Second Lieutenant Andrew Pepin. Pepin joined the military on July 5, 2007, to help others as a firefighter and paramedic.

“University of Phoenix is honored to serve our nation's service members, veterans and their families in providing them both education and career resources to help them achieve their educational and professional goals,” said University of Phoenix Military Relations Vice President retired Army Col. Garland Williams. “The University is proud of Second Lt. Pepin and how his hard work and dedication to obtaining his education helped him achieve his professional goals in his military career.”

Throughout his military career, including two deployments to Kuwait as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, Pepin gained experience working with health care professionals from different ranks and experience levels. He reached the rank of staff sergeant as a non-commissioned officer. Because of his experiences, Pepin knew he wanted to continue advancing in his Air Force career.

Pepin enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Health Administration degree program with a concentration in Emergency Management at University of Phoenix. He completed his education in 2012 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant serving as the 179th Airlift Wing's Health Services Administrator and Medical Service Corps (MSC) Officer. In his role, Pepin is responsible for a range of health care services including overseeing operations specific to medical facility command and administration, medical material and services, patient affairs, medical recruiting, data systems design as well as health services training and education.

“I think my story holds the simple truth that higher education can create career advancement opportunities. Enlisted military members can benefit greatly from understanding how important an education is when you are attempting to maximize your potential,” said Pepin. “Obtaining an education can be life changing, whether in the military ranks or becoming an asset in the civilian sector. I am living proof of that.”
