WASHINGTON, May 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Student Conservation Association (SCA) today announced it has renewed its North American partnership with Domtar, the Montreal-headquartered fiber-based consumer products company. The agreement extends Domtar's support of SCA conservation programs which target under-represented local youth in US and Canadian cities, and positions Domtar as the exclusive sponsor of SCA's annual "Got Dirt?" outdoor photo contest.

Since 2012, Domtar funding has helped to create outdoor service and job opportunities for nearly 5,000 teenagers in urban areas.  Hundreds of Domtar employees and SCA volunteers also have joined forces to preserve natural and cultural landmarks near Domtar facilities in the US and Canada.

"From protecting our precious wildlands to improving our local communities, Domtar and SCA are working to ensure that young people are engaged, informed and empowered," says John D. Williams, Domtar President and Chief Executive Officer.  "We are not only standing with our youth, we are working alongside them to share our 'Caring' value where it has the most impact – in our home towns."

In recent months, Domtar employees and SCA volunteers have refurbished portions of Parc de la riviere Watopeka in Windsor, Quebec; Parc des Rapides in Montreal, Quebec; and Andrew Jackson State Park in Lancaster, South Carolina.

SCA's "Got Dirt?" photo contest is an annual competition allowing amateur photographers to celebrate their passion for the outdoors and conservation service.  Domtar also was a presenting sponsor of SCA's 2014 Earth Day events.
