ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

RF IDeas Inc., the leading manufacturer of in-building identification and access control readers, announces increased functionality of the Ethernet 241 USB/Serial for customers seeking to leverage existing card systems with Multi-Function and Single-Function Printer capabilities.

In addition to the versatility of the Ethernet 241 USB/Serial two-port gateway, customers now have more flexibility with these capabilities:

  • Secure Socket Layer (SSL) - user-selectable for security and data encryption
  • HID keyboard/pin pad operations
  • pcSwipe magnetic strip card reader support
  • MFP24 protocol support

“Printers are often overlooked when it comes to ensuring security. Many employees don't think of their office multi-function printer as a networked device. Couple that reality with the increasing threat of data breaches, the integration of secure components throughout the network becomes even more critical. With SSL capability included in the Ethernet 241, we provide another level of security by protecting the card data that is sent to the host computer,” says Rick Landuyt, President of RF IDeas.

Especially important for those in the finance, healthcare, government, legal and education markets where secure printing may be required as part of their security policies, the Ethernet 241 USB/Serial paired with a pcProx® reader enables secure printing. Additionally, this secure solution saves time and money by eliminating the need to add a network drop to accommodate the card reader. These added features build on the versatility of the Ethernet 241 to accommodate the variety of MFP users, reducing the need to acquire other hardware.
