Utility Aims to Achieve More than 50,000 Employee Volunteer Hours in 2014

SAN FRANCISCO, April 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of National Volunteer Month in April, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today announced an unprecedented employee volunteerism goal for the company of 50,000 employee volunteer hours in 2014. This goal is supported by the company's Month of Service program, which will feature over 100 employee volunteer projects throughout Northern and Central California.

"For more than 100 years, PG&E employees have worked, lived and invested their time and energy in the communities they have the privilege to serve," said Chris Johns, President of PG&E.  "The goal of our employees in 2014 is to invest more than 50,000 hours of their time to help cities and towns throughout Northern and Central California grow stronger and more vibrant."

This week, PG&E employees launched the Month of Service program with events in Bakersfield, Fresno, Modesto, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo and San Rafael. Throughout the month, volunteer activities will include neighborhood emergency response training, distributing food to the underserved and installing solar panels on Habitat for Humanity homes.

PG&E will also once again partner with the California State Parks Foundation for annual cleanup and restoration projects at California state parks throughout April.

"We are pleased to be working with PG&E for the 13th year in a row," said Elizabeth Goldstein, president of the California State Parks Foundation. "This year's support from PG&E is especially welcome as we commemorate the 150th anniversary of our glorious state parks. Together, we have been able to bring communities of volunteers together to beautify and preserve California's treasured state parks. California's state parks need this annual refurbishment, and PG&E's long-term commitment to parks has made a significant difference."
