InterDigital Breaks New Ground in 4K Content Streaming With Successful Perceptual Pre-Filter Demo

WILMINGTON, Del., March 6, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InterDigital, Inc. IDCC, a wireless research and development company, today announced the successful demonstration of its Perceptual Pre-Filter solution for video delivery systems. The system, which was demonstrated, last week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, represents a ground-breaking innovation in bandwidth reduction for streaming video: during the demonstration, the system delivered up to 40% bitrate reduction in streaming of 4K resolution content, without sacrificing quality.

Designed based on the science of human visual perception, InterDigital's Perceptual Pre-Filter solution filters out parts of visual content that the human eye cannot see under certain viewing conditions. The removal of unnecessary visual information delivers equivalent perceived quality while reducing bitrates.
