OMA Reports a 7.9% Increase in February 2014 Passenger Traffic

MONTERREY, Mexico, March 4, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA OMAB OMA, reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 7.9% in February 2014, as compared to February 2013. Domestic traffic increased 7.7%, and international traffic increased 8.5%.

Of total February traffic, 97.8% was commercial aviation and 2.2% was general aviation.

* Terminal passengers: includes passengers on the three types of aviation (commercial, charter, and general aviation), and excludes passengers in transit.

Domestic traffic increased in all thirteen airports in February, with the most noteworthy increases in Culiacán (+17.9%; +14,763 passengers), Monterrey (+2.5%; +8,863), Torreón (+31.5%; +8,353) y Ciudad Juárez (+13.9%; +6,183). Culiacán increased traffic on the Tijuana and Mexico City routes. Monterrey increased traffic on the Mexico City, Querétaro, Toluca, and Guadalajara routes. Torreón increased traffic on its Mexico City and Cancún routes. Ciudad Juárez increased traffic on the Mexico City and Tijuana routes.

International traffic increased in eight airports in February. Traffic increased most significantly in Zihuatanejo (+32.5%; +9,398 passengers) as a result of increases on the Toronto, Minneapolis, and Calgary routes, and in Mazatlán (+10.5%; +3,222) principally as a result of increases on the Minneapolis route. The most significant reduction was in Monterrey (-2.2%; -1,416 passengers) as a result of lower traffic on the Dallas and Chicago routes.

The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in February decreased 1.8% as compared to the same month of last year. The number of domestic operations decreased 0.9% and international operations decreased 7.0%.
