SARASOTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

As OBJ Enterprises works to expand its roster of development partners in order to capitalize on the growth of the mobile gaming industry, worldwide spending on gaming apps has dramatically grown to a new record high.

According to global data compiled by market researchers AppAnnie and IHS, mobile gaming apps accounted for $16 billion in spending in 2013, up 2.9 times the previous year's total. Digital games was far and away the largest content category for digital content spending last year, with spending totaling $34 billion, excluding apps.

The numbers in Asia were particularly impressive in 2013, where spending grew 4.4 times in Japan and 5.8 times in South Korea. Both are top markets for digital gaming applications.

Through its gaming divisions, Obscene Interactive and Novalon Games, OBJE is seeking out new development partners to help the company grow right alongside the explosive mobile industry. Last week, OBJE executives met with talented, fledgling gaming studios at SXSW Interactive, discussing a range of deals to market and develop hot new gaming technologies for a global marketplace. This week, representatives of the company will meet with emerging innovators at the Game Development Conference in San Francisco.

OBJE is working to partner with other independent gaming studios to deliver innovative and engaging gaming products for a $16-billion market alongside companies such as Glu Mobile Inc. GLUU and The9 Limited NCTY.
