Connections Learning by Pearson welcomes Alex Lown and Kayleigh Weeks to talk about their role as “Success Coaches” for students in blended high schools.

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) February 17, 2014

Blended learning programs that provide students with a combination of online and on-site instruction are not just providing new ways for students to learn—they are also creating new roles for educators.

“Across the country at blended schools, we are now seeing professional Success Coaches who serve as instructional partners for online and onsite subject area teachers, providing up-close support and guidance for students to keep them focused and on track,” said Mickey Revenaugh, Executive Vice President of Connections Learning by Pearson. “This approach is really driven by today's young learners who, in addition to direct instruction, benefit from more holistic guidance—the Success Coach has a 360-degree view of the student's overarching academic and personal goals and can support them accordingly.”

Revenaugh will moderate a free webinar about the role of the blended learning coach on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 2 PM ET, featuring two practicing Success Coaches: Alex Lown, Success Coach at Nexus Academy of Lansing and Kayleigh Weeks, Success Coach at Nexus Academy of Cleveland. The three will discuss how the blended learning coach works with students, teachers, counselors and parents to personalize learning every day.

Connections partners with seven Nexus Academy blended high schools in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. Nexus Academy offers a state-of-the-art campus environment where teachers interact with students both online and on-site. Campus-based Success Coaches support and help guide students through comprehensive online curriculum, which includes AP courses, foreign languages, core academics and more. Students are provided with a mobile computer and other technology tools; allowing them to work anywhere within the Nexus Academy school as well as beyond, 24/7.

Nationwide, a record number of K-12 students are getting their public educations in blended settings: at least 24 states and Washington, DC have blended online/on-site schools, and blended learning is the fastest growing innovation in K-12 education, according to the latest Keeping Pace With K-12 Online and Blended Learning (2013) report. Disrupting Class authors Clayton M. Christensen and Michael B. Horn project that by 2019, 50 percent of all high school courses will be delivered online, and have pinpointed “Flex model” blended learning programs like Nexus Academy as having the greatest potential to transform education.

Participants in the free webinar on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 2:00 PM ET may interact with the blended learning coaches during a live question and answer session. To register, click here or visit ConnectionsLearning.com for more information.
