AK Steel Coke Plant Recognized For Outstanding Safety Performance

WEST CHESTER, Ohio, Feb. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AK Steel AKS said today that the company's Middletown (OH) Works coke plant has received the Max Eward Safety Award from the American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute (ACCCI), a leading industry trade organization.  The award recognizes the company for operating one of the safest cokemaking facilities in America during 2013.  AK Steel's Middletown Works coke plant, along with two other ACCCI member coke facilities, operated the entire year of 2013 without any OSHA recordable injuries.

The ACCCI recognition marks the 14th time in the past 17 years that an AK Steel coke plant has received the Max Eward Safety Award.  The company's Middletown Works coke plant is now a ten-time recipient of the award.

In addition to AK Steel's Middletown Works coke plant, the company's Rockport (IN) Works and Zanesville (OH) Works operated the entire year of 2013 without any OSHA recordable injuries.
