NEW YORK, Feb. 19, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- City National Bank announced today that it has appointed Scott Witter to head the private client services group in New York.

Witter is a senior vice president and a private client advisor with more than 25 years of banking experience who has managed the private client services office for City National Bank in downtown Los Angeles since 2008. He will succeed Robin Balding, who joined the bank in 2003 and is retiring.

In his new role, Witter will lead a New York team of highly skilled relationship managers who provide advice and services in investment management, customized credit, depository and cash management, estate planning, trust and wealth transfer management and retirement planning for high-net-worth individuals and families, professional services firms and nonprofit organizations.

"We are extremely pleased that Scott will manage our New York team. He has a long track record as both a consummate leader and also someone devoted to delivering an exceptional experience to our clients – entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and their families," said Michael Pagano, executive vice president of private client services for City National Bank. "Scott will continue the successful growth of our business in New York City, just as he did so well in Los Angeles."

City National continues to expand in New York and recently opened two ground-floor branches last year. The bank entered New York in 2002 and now has more than 200 colleagues, including those located at City National Rochdale Investment Management in the historic General Electric building on Lexington Avenue. City National is now the 23rd largest American commercial bank and has been listed by Barron's as one of the nation's top 40 wealth management firms for the past 13 years.

In addition:

  • City National currently provides banking services for more than half of all Broadway shows, including "Book of Mormon," "Kinky Boots" and "Lucky Guy."
  • The company provides banking and wealth management for more than 60 law firms, as well as many other businesses and professional firms, including family offices, hedge funds and accounting firms throughout Manhattan and the tri-state area.

Witter joined City National in 2008. He began his career at Lloyds Bank California, followed by 18 years at Security Pacific, which in 1992 became Bank of America. At Bank of America he served in a variety of positions, including treasury operations manager, consumer regional executive and premier banking market executive, and as a private client advisor in the Private Banking division.

With his move to New York, Witter will also be retiring from a 27-year career with the Azusa Police Department as a reserve police officer.

Witter is a graduate of California State University, Los Angeles, where he earned a bachelor's degree in finance and business administration. A certified financial planner, Witter is a registered securities representative and holds Series 6, 7, 24, 26, 63 and 65 securities licenses, as well as a life and disability insurance license.
