RICHFIELD, Ohio, Feb. 7, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- National Interstate Corporation NATL (the "Company") acknowledges the announcement on February 5, 2014 by American Financial Group, Inc. ("AFG") (NYSE/Nasdaq: AFG) whereby its wholly-owned subsidiary, Great American Insurance Company ("GAIC"), commenced a tender offer to acquire all of the outstanding shares of common stock, other than shares owned by GAIC, at a purchase price of $28.00 per share in cash without interest.

The Company's board of directors intends to advise shareholders of its position regarding GAIC's offer within 10 business days (February 19, 2014) by filing a Solicitation/Recommendation Statement on Schedule 14D-9 with the Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC").
