BROOKVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Long Island University has announced the election of Eric Krasnoff as the new chair of its Board of Trustees. Mr. Krasnoff, the retired chairman, president and CEO of Pall Corporation PLL, has served on the LIU board since 1992 and heads its Planning Committee. He also led last year's Presidential Search Committee, culminating in the appointment of LIU's tenth president, Dr. Kimberly Cline.

The Krasnoff family has a long history of involvement with LIU. Mr. Krasnoff's father, Abraham Krasnoff, joined the board in 1979 and later became chairman (1983-1984). Mr. Krasnoff's wife, Sandra, serves as a Vice-Chair on the Council of Overseers of LIU's Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. The highly philanthropic family established the Krasnoff Family Endowed Scholarship and also made an endowment gift to support the dance program at Tilles. Additionally, the annual Abraham Krasnoff Memorial Award for Scholarly Achievement honors faculty members for an outstanding single scholarly achievement or a body of work accomplished during a lifetime.

Mr. Krasnoff also serves as a Vice-Chair of the Long Island chapter of The Nature Conservancy, a trustee of the Long Island Children's Museum, and is a board member of Old Westbury Gardens. He is a resident of Oyster Bay Cove, N.Y.

Mr. Krasnoff succeeds Edward Travaglianti. Mr. Travaglianti joined LIU's Board of Trustees in 1992 and served as board chair for eight years where he championed and supported numerous initiatives at the university. President of TD Bank Long Island, he is widely regarded as an exceptional community leader, known for his service on numerous boards, including trustee of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Winthrop University Hospital and Don Monti Memorial Cancer Research Foundation. He also is Long Island Chair of The Corporate Volunteer Leadership Campaign for The New York Blood Center. Mr. Travaglianti established a scholarship at LIU in his brother's honor, the Charles A. Travaglianti Endowed Scholarship.

Acknowledging Mr. Travaglianti's extraordinary contributions to LIU, Mr. Krasnoff said, “The university has benefitted greatly during Ed's tenure as chair. It has been a pleasure to work with him and is an honor to succeed him.”

Mr. Travaglianti spoke equally highly of his successor, “Eric is a tireless champion for LIU and it has been both a privilege and a pleasure to work with him for more than two decades. I have every confidence that he and President Cline will lead the university to even greater levels of excellence.”

Of Mr. Krasnoff, Cline said, “I know I speak for the entire LIU community when I say we are honored and grateful to have Eric as our new chair. The Krasnoff family has been an integral part of the university's leadership for over 30 years, and this depth of understanding is invaluable. I personally look forward to working with Eric as we foster a world-class educational experience for our students.”
