LEIDOS Awarded $47 million Contract by U.S. ARMY

RESTON, Va., Dec. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Leidos [NYSE: LDOS], a national security, health and engineering solutions company, announced it was awarded task orders by the U.S. Army to provide engineering, design and fielding support for the Emergency Management Modernization Program (EM2P). The single-award firm fixed-price task orders have a total contract value of approximately $47 million. The task orders were awarded under the EM2P for Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) and Mass Warning and Notification (MWN), with Network Alerting Systems and Telephone Alerting System.  Work will be performed at Army installations within and outside the continental United States.   

The U.S. Army EM2P is the single integrated acquisition program for the design, procurement, fielding, new equipment training, and life-cycle management of emergency management capabilities in support of Army installations.

Under the E9-1-1 task order, Leidos will provide site surveys, designs, procurement, fielding, training and support of E9-1-1 systems, including integration with computer-aided dispatch and land-mobile radio systems. The systems will improve response time, accuracy, and enable on-base 9-1-1 calls to be routed directly to on-base emergency responders, instead of requiring callers to dial a seven-digit number.

Under the MWN task order, Leidos will provide an enterprise system for rapidly notifying installation personnel of hazards, threats or emergencies. This system utilizes many media methods for notifications and will allow the Army to send pop-up alerts and emails to desktop computers and smart phones; audible messages to telephones; text messages to cell phones; audible/visual messages to indoor speaker/strobe devices; and alert information to social media.  In addition, the system will also integrate large voice towers for outdoor-audible messages with marquee systems for outdoor visual messages and also the Government's Integrated Public Alert Warning System network.

The company, formerly named Science Applications International Corporation, changed its name to Leidos, Inc. on September 27, 2013 in connection with the spin-off of its former technical, engineering and enterprise information technology business, which has assumed the company's former name.  Leidos has submitted a change-of-name agreement to the U.S. government to recognize the name change, which is currently under review by the responsible Defense Contract Management Agency contracting officer.
