MAIDEN, N.C., Nov. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Air T, Inc. (Air T) AIRT today reported consolidated net earnings of $456,000 ($0.18 per diluted share) for fiscal 2014's second quarter ended September 30, 2013 compared to consolidated net earnings of $227,000 ($0.09 per diluted share) for the similar fiscal 2013 period.

Consolidated revenue increased $3,028,000 (14%) to $24,190,000 for the quarter ended September 30, 2013 compared to the same quarter in the prior fiscal year. Consolidated operating income increased $402,000 (114%) for the quarter ended September 30, 2013 compared to the same quarter in the prior fiscal year.  Ground equipment sales revenue increased $1,822,000 (30%) this quarter compared to the prior year comparable quarter.  Ground equipment sales operating income increased by $616,000 from the prior year comparable quarter.  At September 30, 2013, ground equipment sales backlog was $11.9 million, compared to $15.5 million at September 30, 2012 and $6.5 million at March 31, 2013.  Our ground support services segment reported a $1,136,000 (38%) increase in revenue this quarter, driven by continuing growth in locations and in services offered to new and existing customers; operating income increased by $255,000.  Overnight air cargo revenues were flat this quarter, but the segment's operating income decreased by $299,000 this quarter as a result of a variety of factors including a reduction in revenue aircraft, increased maintenance labor costs and increased maintenance facility costs this quarter.
