FORT WAYNE, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

EXTENSION, Inc. announced today that the company has changed its name to Extension Healthcare and has rebranded its flagship solution – formerly known as EXTENSION® HealthAlert™ – under the name Extension® Engage™. The name Extension Healthcare more accurately reflects the company's focus on improving healthcare delivery by providing next-generation clinical alarm safety, event driven secure text messaging, and event response solutions to hospitals.

“Extension Healthcare is passionate about protecting patients from adverse events related to the abundance of alarms and interruptions that clinicians must deal with on a daily basis,” said Todd Plesko, Chief Executive Officer. “Our new name reflects our commitment to offering innovative solutions designed specifically to assist the healthcare industry in improving the quality of care delivery. We are investing extensively in the future of our company and our products, and we will continue to provide essential alarm management middleware with event driven secure texting that ultimately improves the patient care environment and saves lives.”

The Joint Commission (TJC) recently issued a new National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG.06.01.01) for reducing hospital alarm fatigue and alarm-related incidents. The Extension Engage intelligent alarm safety system is the only solution that combines alarm management with event driven secure text messaging and event response functionality to enable a unique clinical collaboration capability for caregivers.

Engage Mobile, a key component of the Extension Engage solution, helps hospitals comply with TJC accreditation standards and solves a multitude of challenges hospitals encounter related to patient alarms and care team communications.

Mr. Plesko added, “With over 150 hospitals signed as customers, our company has realized tremendous growth since 2009. With the Joint Commission issuing a new National Patient Safety Goal on Alarm Safety we expect an annual growth rate of over 100%. This next chapter as Extension Healthcare will certainly be one of the most exciting times for our growing company.”

As part of the transition to Extension Healthcare, the company's corporate web address will be www.ExtensionHealthcare.com. Additionally, the company has introduced a new logo and other branding updates to better symbolize its healthcare-specific technologies. Inquiries regarding branding guidelines and questions regarding the transition can be sent to Whitney St. Pierre, Director of Marketing for Extension Healthcare, at WStPierre@ExtensionHealthcare.com.

Extension Healthcare is leading the industry into the next generation of clinical alarm safety systems. Extension has merged advanced alarm management software with an innovative communications approach that enables clinical collaboration to occur in response to patient-related critical events via event driven secure text messaging and voice. The Extension® Engage™ solution provides an advanced clinical rules and workflow engine that delivers intelligent notifications based on key contextual alarm, patient, and care team data. These intelligent notifications are securely routed to the appropriate staff members via their preferred communications device to support informed clinical engagement across the complete hospital enterprise. Through Extension Engage, clinicians can instantly initiate informed responses to critical events through secure text response and voice call and engage their patients and other members of the care team from any location. Extension Engage has been granted FDA 510k Class II clearance for medical device secondary alarming.
