When the local Adult Education Center at Buffalo, NY offered a class in fishing over a decade ago, Terry Bandy was the first to sign up. Over ten years later, Bandy is returning the favor by offering his own knowledge and expertise to members of the community.

"I have had so much success using these techniques that I wanted to share it with other like-minded people," said Bandy, who will be offering the course through the joint efforts of a continuing education program and a local fishing supply store. "When I took those classes many years ago, I had already been using my own fishing tricks for quite some time, but seeing how other people designed them gave me other ideas and inspired a newfound creativity within myself."

The classes will be held each week for the next two months. In that time Bandy hopes that he can impart some of his knowledge and experience to a new generation of fishermen. "I love the sport of fishing and I want to do anything I can to give something back," said Bandy. "Hopefully I can show an experienced angler something they had not yet seen, and also show beginners how to simplify the process during their first attempt at reeling one in."

The classes offer fishing-related arts & crafts as well. The jigs produced by the students of the class will be theirs to keep. The fishing supply store has offered to donate the materials to the students, and Bandy is volunteering his time to teach the class. "Using your own lures makes fishing so much more rewarding. Knowing that you are responsible for the tools used when you go fishing makes you feel that much more accomplished, and that sense of pride is a wonderful thing," said Terry Bandy.

The course plans on concluding by taking the students on a fishing trip, where they will test out their knowledge for the first time. The cost of the trip has yet to be determined, but Bandy hopes that most of the cost will be covered through donations from local businesses. "The trip is such a great way to culminate the course. We will be able to see how well our techniques work in a practical setting. I am very, very excited for that. I hope we have plenty of students sign up for this course, I really do."
