Minister MacKay and MP Brian Storseth Announce Accommodation Complex Completion, Renovations and Infrastructure Upgrades at 4 Wing Cold Lake
COLD LAKE, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - July 2, 2013) - The men and women based at 4 Wing Cold Lake will soon benefit from a series of infrastructure improvements announced today. These include upgrades to existing water, sewer, storm sewer, and road infrastructure, and the aircraft refinishing shop, as well as completion of an accommodations complex, and a contract award for renovations to some of the wing's residential housing units.
"Our Government is ensuring the equipment necessary for training and conducting operations in an evolving security environment is readily available," said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. "At the same time, we continue to invest in the future of military communities through infrastructure and housing upgrades, improving the quality of life for military personnel including at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Cold Lake."
"The work of CFB Cold Lake personnel is essential to our local communities and to Canadians across the country," said Brian Storseth, Member of Parliament for Westlock - St. Paul. "I am pleased with the significant investments our Government has made to support Canadian Armed Forces members in the important jobs we ask of them."
Minister MacKay, along with MP Storseth, announced the completion of the personnel accommodations complex, which housed participants from Exercise Maple Flag, one of the greatest international operating training exercises, over the last month. They also announced renovations to the aircraft refinishing facility. Together these projects are valued at over $4 million.
It was also made public that a $23.3 million contract was awarded to Clearway Construction Inc. for the fourth phase of the water, sewer, storm communications, and road systems upgrades around the wing. Another two phases will be required to complete Cold Lake's utilities infrastructure upgrade in future years.
It was further announced that a contract was awarded for $829 000 to Value Master Builders Ltd. of Cold Lake, for windows and exterior cladding renovations to residential housing units at the wing. Together, all of these projects created and maintained over 150 jobs in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
4 Wing Cold Lake is the busiest fighter base in Canada. It provides general purpose, multi-role, combat capable forces in support of Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Air Force operations, both domestic and international. Recently, CFB Cold Lake provided invaluable support to flood relief efforts in Southern Alberta through its contribution of air assets and personnel.
