Pacific Hospital of Long Beach has been recently accredited by NIAHO and designated as ISO 9001:2008 compliant by DNV Healthcare Inc.

ISO 9001:2008 designation or certification indicates that a medical facility operates under the highest quality management standards. DNV Healthcare is the leading accreditor of US hospitals integrating ISO 9001 quality compliance with the Medicare Conditions of Participation.

This important designation, received along with the NIAHO® (National Integrated Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) accreditation in February 2013, was the culmination of an intense staff training and self assessment program at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach. NIAHO accreditation is not an inspection, but a collaborative effort between hospitals and the organization to improve patient care and establish common standards. Pacific Hospital of Long Beach underwent rigorous examination of its quality management system to ensure the best patient care and improve procedures.

The three components for sufficient Quality Management are: providing unwavering patient care, improving patient satisfaction, and advancing goal-based performance. Pacific Hospital of Long Beach meets ISO standards at this moment and is expected to obtain full certification within six to eight months.

NIAHO's standards address patient care and decision-making by health care professionals and hospital management. The standards are determined after consulting with health care providers, patients, and health industry experts.

“The hospital made a decision four years ago to move from The Joint Commission to DNV for the organization's accreditation, which includes the commitment to comply with the ISO 9001:2008 quality management standards by end of the first accreditation cycle,” said Karen Scott, Vice President of Quality Management. Karen added that “ISO 9001:2008 is an international recognition for the quality of our management systems and includes controls for documents, records, supplies, and an overall commitment to improving our Quality Management System on an ongoing basis.” The motto for the ISO movement at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach is “Say what you do and do what you say”.

Pacific Hospital's dedication to superior patient care is demonstrated by its nationally recognized infection control measures. The hospital has a vigorous program to reduce MRSA and Clostridium Difficile Infections. It's dedication to a germ-free environment has garnered a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition in 2009, recognition from the California Hospital Association, and media coverage from the California Report on KQED public radio, CNN, Fox News, and others. Additionally, Pacific Hospital has reduced Ventilator Assisted Pneumonia (VAP) to zero. Pacific Hospital of Long Beach is dedicated to reducing bacterial infections through rigorous cleaning of hospital equipment, proper hygiene care for health workers, and proper treatment of patients exhibiting or prone to these germs.
