"Motivation Reading for Common Core" Built From the Ground Up to Align to Standards, Support the Development of Critical Thinking Skills

Tyler, Texas (PRWEB) March 18, 2013

As schools around the country implement the new Common Core State Standards, they are looking for tools that will increase rigor in their classrooms and develop students' critical thinking skills. To address this critical need, Mentoring Minds announced today "Motivation Readingā€, a resource that integrates critical and creative thinking, engages students in rigorous and relevant learning experiences and builds higher levels of reading ability. Mentoring Minds' team of education professionals brings more than a decade of experience developing affordable, effective learning tools that help children think critically to this new edition of "Motivation Reading," built from the ground up to align to the Common Core.

"The new Common Core State Standards require teachers to take instruction to a higher level, to move beyond simply teaching reading and math content and create a learning environment infused with critical and creative thinking activities," said Michael Lujan, founder of Mentoring Minds. "Our new 'Motivation Reading ' reflects the rigor, depth and complexity of the new English/Language Arts standards and will provide teachers with the tools they need to ensure that their students are developing critical thinking skills for success in school and in life."

The "Motivation Reading" Student Edition includes 25 reading units in literary and informational text genres, such as journals, letters and biographies. Designed to support the higher order thinking skills delineated in the Common Core, each unit is comprised of a reading passage, multiple choice questions, critical thinking questions, a journal entry, a creative thinking activity and homework as well as suggested parent activities.

The robust teacher edition provides in-depth explanations of all the components of the student edition and is packed with instructional strategies that promote reading comprehension and reinforce instruction. In addition to completely unpacking the aligned Common Core standard, each unit provides teachers with correlations to both Depth of Knowledge and Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. All 25 units have a vocabulary focus as well as suggested assessments and intervention activities.

"Motivation Reading" supports learning in thousands of classrooms around the country. Illustrative of educator response to the resource, Molly Allmond-Helmer, Curriculum Facilitator at Galveston Independent School District, said, "Teachers are thrilled with Motivation Reading! They find many different ways to incorporate Motivation Reading into daily instruction. What makes Motivation Reading stand above all is that it motivates students to think creatively and critically."
