Every year, on the first day of spring solstice, Iranians of all religions and backgrounds celebrate Nowruz, which symbolizes the treasures and dreams to come in the new year. The celebration lasts almost two weeks and includes various feasts, music and dancing. As one of most widely celebrated festivities in the Middle East, and many other countries around the world, the Nowruz global message is also heard here in the Southland to help children with cancer through the ISCC.
Over 150 volunteers have helped to prepare for the ISCC Nowruz Bazaar, which will likely see more than five thousand guests and visitors over the long day of celebration. Many who celebrate Nowruz in the Southland often start their observance at ISCC's Nowruz Bazaar. Visitors can enjoy activities for kids, an amazing variety of traditional Iranian foods, and see the traditional “haft seen” spread, which includes seven scared items that begin with the letter “s,” such as “seer” or garlic and “seeb” or apple.
The international cancer society's Nowruz Bazaar serves as an entry into the world of ISCC and all of its hard work to support children with cancer. Guests can talk with ISCC staff to learn more, as well as donate directly to the charity.
