First Annual Children's Innovation Award Presented to GE Healthcare

Children's National Medical Center honors company for innovative imaging technology

WASHINGTON, D.C. (PRWEB) February 14, 2013

Children's National Medical Center has announced that the first annual Children's Innovation Award will be presented to GE Healthcare at the 7th Annual Children's Ball, presented by Lexus, on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. Dr. Richard Hausmann, President & CEO, Magnetic Resonance from GE Healthcare will accept the award on behalf of John Dineen, CEO of GE Healthcare.

GE Healthcare provides innovative imaging technology to the child-centered MRI environments at the main campus and outpatient imaging centers of Children's National Medical Center. These artistic and imaginative environments provide a comforting experience for young patients and allow them to enter MRI scanners with little or no anxiety. Since launching in the summer of 2012, more than 150 patients have been imaged without the need for sedation, creating a healthier experience for the child. Children's National researchers are also pioneering the use of GE technology in fetal imaging, which could lead to increased ability to prevent brain injury prior to birth.

Dr. Kurt Newman, President and CEO of Children's National Medical Center remarked, “We are so pleased to recognize the leadership of GE Healthcare's CEO, John Dineen as well as Dr. Richard Hausmann and other GE colleagues for their incredible contribution to Children's National Medical Center. GE's innovative technology and their passion for leading the way to improve patient care makes them an ideally suited recipient for Children's National's first-ever Innovation Award.”

Over 800 guests from the business, professional, political, diplomatic, legal, and healthcare communities are expected to attend this year's Children's Ball. This year's theme is “It's a Small World After All,” which highlights the creative connections across the hospital and throughout the community, and shines a spotlight on Children's National's commitment to treating children from the Washington area, across the country, and around the world. The festive black-tie Ball will include cocktails, dinner, dancing, an exciting live auction, and an after-hours lounge and dance party. Funds raised for the Children's Ball will play a key role in supporting the work of Children's National's world-renowned faculty and staff. These critical funds help to:

  •     provide top-notch care to children, regardless of their families' ability to pay;
  •     invest in future cures for some of the most devastating childhood diseases; and
  •     recruit the best and brightest faculty, expand our programs, and update our facilities to provide the most innovative care for our patients.
