Music Conservatory of Westchester Announces Open Enrollment for Spring Classes

Spring semester begins February 5 and welcomes new students throughout the season

Enrollment is now open for the Music Conservatory of Westchester's (MCW) spring semester, where students are invited to learn and create music of all genres in a vibrant and nurturing setting. The community music school and performing arts campus includes an exciting array of programs for students of all ages and skill levels, from pre-school to seniors.

Group and individual lessons in all instruments and voice are provided by 85 dedicated teachers, all of whom are widely accomplished in the arts. A wide variety of classical, jazz, vocal, and rock classes – large and small – are also available. The school's youngest students enjoy Music Skills, an active learning class that gives kids a fun introduction to the fundamentals of music, as well as Suzuki instruction in violin, cello, flute, and guitar.

For children, teens, and adults with special needs, MCW's Music Therapy Institute offers adapted music instruction and music therapy that addresses each student's physical, emotional, social and cognitive well being, provided by board certified music therapists.    

“Music is a gift you can give your child that will last forever, or one you can give yourself that will engage your mind and heart,” said Dr. Jean Newton, MCW's Executive Director. “We have something here for everyone – and if you'd like to try out one lesson before signing up for a full semester, we can arrange that.”

Founded in 1929, the Music Conservatory of Westchester today continues to be the largest music organization in the Westchester region, serving more than 2,500 students of all ages and abilities each year. The school's comprehensive programs include one-on-one instrumental instruction in all genres from classical to jazz and rock, music theory and composition, performing ensembles, young children's classes and Suzuki instruction, programs for adults and senior citizens, and more than 100 recitals and performances each year.

“Our students have many opportunities to perform in the community as well as in MCW's professional recital hall, which will soon be equipped with state-of-the-art digital recording technology,” said Dr. Newton. “Students may choose to play music with others in bands and chamber ensembles, explore music theory or jazz improvisation, compose original music, sing in an ensemble, or discover their creativity in a drum group.”

Throughout its history, the Conservatory's programs have proactively embraced everyone in the community regardless of age, background, ability or financial means. Over $100,000 in scholarships is awarded annually to financially deserving students and the school's Music Therapy Institute is the largest professional program in the region, working in partnership with 29 agencies at 65 sites. The Conservatory's campus consists of a 36,000 square-foot fully renovated building, with 43 teaching studios, two dance studios, and a state-of-the-art recital hall and boasts The Steffi Nossen Dance School and Westchester Choral Society as residents in their building. The Conservatory is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and is a member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education.
