Media Advisory; Street Community Celebrate Family Day at Our Place
VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 7, 2013) - Our Place will open on BC's first Family Day holiday to celebrate with their family living in poverty. Our Place has always referred to the people they serve as family instead of clients and guests, so what a great opportunity for a celebration.
The day will start off with lunch and live music followed by midway games and prizes throughout the drop-in centre. Movies will be shown in the computer lab for those who want a more relaxing time. Cake will be served in the afternoon and then a special dinner will follow. Volunteers will be on hand to assist with the day's celebration. It will be a fun filled Family Day for everyone involved.
"The family we serve are often forgotten and thought of as outcasts in our society, said Don Evans, Executive Director of Our Place. "This day will be about celebrating each person who comes into Our Place to let them know they belong, are loved, cared for and are part of our family."
The day was made possible by a generous grant from the United Church of Canada.
Our Place Society is an adult community centre serving the poor, disabled, and homeless of Greater Victoria. At its location on Pandora Avenue it serves over 1200 meals per day.
