SelfLube supplies the tooling industry, which went through a very rough patch a few years ago. The industry, which has emerged, is a lot leaner and more competitive than it was in the past. "But, this only works if the company supplying the components is absolutely reliable. Otherwise the wheels fall off the wagon," explains owner Phil Allor. "We are in the customer service business. With the industry growing we must grow a little ahead of it or we fall down on the job. That is not going to happen."

SelfLube has been buying new equipment, hired skilled machinists and is in the process of building up inventory. Fortunately, it has the space. The company made a big commitment to the industry several years ago when it built a new plant triple the size of its old plant. "For a few years this was looking like a pretty dumb move," says Allor. "Now it is looking like the best decision we ever made."

SelfLube is a US based manufacturer of mold and die components such as bushings, gibs, wear strips, parting line locks, lifter slides and related items - 8,000 standard part numbers in all, many of which are self-lubricating. The company sells direct to build shops throughout North America and Canada, which results in both better pricing and better customer service. Its record for on time delivery is among the best in the industry.
